Head House and Sack House
This project is a competition entry. Just south of Downtown Saint Paul, a historic but slowly deteriorating concrete grain terminal sits on the shore of the Mississippi River between the water on one side and railroad tracks on the other. The Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation placed a call for ideas to reuse and renovate it. The proposal suggests transforming the head house, the tall elevator, into a theater and the long ground level sack house into a restaurant. The tall interior space of the elevator would serve as the fly tower where curtains would be stored along with other rigging equipment.
To properly contrast with the existing concrete architecture, the added elements are clad with geometric stainless-steel panels.
