Outlook

Located just 10 miles south of Grand Marais, Minnesota, and set high on the hillside overlooking Lake Superior, this residential campus of four buildings is comprised of a main house, a guest house, a 3,000 square foot workshop, and a small two-car garage. The architecture is kept simple so that the surrounding nature can continue to be the main focus. Large windows allow for strong visual connections to the surrounding forest and the lake below. While connected to the local power grid, this project uses sustainable design strategies like solar panels and an underground geothermal heat transfer system so that it cannot only be independent of it, it can actually sell power back to the local power company. The project was authored by Joe while employed with CF Design.

The project will complete construction the summer of 2026.
